The Ogya club's forward piped Luis Suarez to emerge as CNN goal of the week winner

Aduana Stars striker Bright Adjei has emerged winner of CNN Goal of the Week after votes from fans.

Adjei, 25, netted a wonderful second-half volley in matchday five of Ghana Premier League against Ashanti Gold at the Len Clay Stadium, to cancel out Emmanuel Osei Baffour's first half penalty when he came on for Zakaria Mumuni.

Adjei polled 81 per cent of the total votes cast, beating Barcelona star Luis Suarez, who had 14 per cent, Javier Cortés of Mexican side Pumas and Celtic star Tom Rogic.

"I'm very happy to win this award. It really feels good to be recognized globally," Adjei told aduanafc.com.

"I believe this achievement will propel me to a different height. What really inspires me is beating Luis Suarez for the award because he is a global icon.

"It's my target to score at least 20 league goals before the season ends and I have 25 more matches to reach this ambition," he added.

Aduana Stars midfielder Bright Adjei has expressed delight at the global recognition received following his fantastic strike which earned his side a one all draw with Ashgold in the Ghana Premier league last Saturday.

Adjei’s goal of the season contender was nominated for the CNN World Goal of the Week award.

He was named by the global broadcaster to compete with Barcelona star Luis Suarez, Javier Cortés of Mexican side Pumas and Celtic star Tom Rogic for Goal of the Week award

“I’m really excited for this nomination, it makes me feel that our hard work here is been monitored elsewhere so I’m really happy,” he told Joy Sports

“This will encourage me to score more goals and as a striker that is exactly what you have to do.

“You realize Luiz Suarez scored a similar goal in the Champions league against Arsenal so I always learn from Suarez and I really want to do more.”

Ashantigold were left to lick their wounds on Saturday afternoon when Bright Adjei’s 90th-minute goal for Aduana Stars saw them pick a point in their 2015/16 Ghana Premier League match week 5 fixture played at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

It was a game of equals judging from the way both teams played throughout the match, but Aduana had the better of the exchanges creating most chances, but failed to convert them

Aduana Stars who had in their midst their new coach Cioaba Aristica were searching for their 2nd ever win of the season having lost their first three matches on the trot. They picked up their first three points of the season on Sunday after defeating the free-scoring WAFA side.

The game saw its first goal in the 43rd minute when Aduana Stars captain Godfred Saka was adjudged to have handled the ball in his own penalty box and a penalty was given.

Emmanuel Osei Baffour scored to end the half 1-0 in favour of Ashgold.

Back from recess Aduana Stars fought hard for the equalizer, but the defencemen of Ashgold held them in check.

When all seemed like a win for Ashgold, Bright Adjei climbed out of the dug-out to score a stunning acrobatic finish to frustrate AshantiGold to a 1-1 draw.

In his words in the post-match interview Bashir Hayford - the AshantiGold head coach praised the former Tema Youth midfielder and describing his effort as spectacular.

AshantiGold XI: Robert Dabuo - Eric Opoku, Tijani Joshua, Hudu Yakubu, Kadri Mohammed - Godfred Rockson, Alhassan Nuhu, Isaac Amoah, Fuseini Nuhu - Frederick Quayson, Emmanuel Osei Baffour

Aduana Stars XI: Stephen Adams - Godfred Saka, Daniel Darkwah, Wahab Adams, Yakubu Mohammed - Seth Opare, Zakaria Mumuni, Richard Mpong, Elvis Opoku - Noah Martey, Yahaya Mohammed

Aduana Stars have been boosted by news that Yahaya Mohammed’s shoulder injury is not serious as initially feared and should be fit to face defending champions AshantiGold in Saturday.

Mohammed suffered the setback during last Sunday’s 1-0 win over WAFA SC at home to register their first three points of the season.

The former local Black Stars key man has returned to training and expected to be in action at the Len Clay.

"It was nothing too serious. He is back in training and should be ready for our match against Ashgold," the club’s Operations Manager George Gyawu told aduanafc.com.

Aduana Stars coach Coiaba Aristica is pleased with his side's narrow win over WAFA on Sunday but admits there is more work to be done.

The fire club posted their first win of the campaign against WAFA thanks to a penalty goal from captain Godfred Saka.

Aduana had lost all previous three games prior to clash with WAFA, prompting the resignation of coach Nurudeen Amadu and hiring of Romanian trainer Coiaba Aristica.

"I'm very satisfied about the win. I need more work on the players. I have more problem in psyching the team and I believe step by step the team will go on to achieve good results"  Aristica told aduanafc.com after the game.

Aduana now occupy the 13th position with three points of a possible 12. Their next assignment is against Ashanti Gold at Obuasi.

Aduana Stars nicked their first win of the Ghana Premier League season after beating West African Football Academy 1-0 at the Agyemang Badu I Stadium in Dormaa Ahenkro on Sunday.

Reinstated captain Godfred Saka starred in defence and struck the solitary goal of the game for the under-performing former title-winner who needed the maximum points at all cost.

Despite their notorious scoring form this season, WAFA were chasing their first away goal from Sogakope.

But Aduana under Cioaba Aristica was searching for their first goal and first win of the season.

The Romanian tactician unleashed Zakaria Mumuni against his former club while Godfred Saka wore the armband for the second time since he was restored to the captaincy.

The former Right to Dream Academy graduate converted from the spot with a impressive technique to win the game for the Fire Club.

Aduana Stars have lifted themselves from the foot of the table, moving above Asante Kotoko who slipped to a 2-0 loss at Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.
